Website Builder Tutorials – creating links

Here’s tutorial number four: how to create links. Once again its a fairly simple area, but one that is important to get right. The ‘Web’ is really a web of links, and broken links are a real problem. Your website needs to link together logically – its the key to making it easy to use. And if you link to other sites make sure you follow these instructions to the letter!

Hi, can I ask which package you need to be able to create a like to a file on your pc?
    Thank you

    *sorry link not like!

    Hi Catherine,

Do you want to put a file on your website so people can download it? You can do that with all the packages, but it all depends how big it is – the free pack gives you just 20MB storage.

If that doesn’t answer your question please let me know!

Getting annoyed now. im creating links on my page but it wont let me paste into a link from youtube. it is infuriating as it randomly selects another part of the site and assumes ive clicked on it.

    Hi Gary,

    Sorry you’re getting annoyed.

In order to bring in a video from Youtube (I just checked your site – you’ve got one there so is this problem solved?), you need to first insert the video player, and then it asks you where you want teh video to come from – choose Youtube.

You can then drag and drop the video player around the page to put it in the right place.

    Hope that solves the problem.

    Hi

I’m trying to create a link to some text but it’s not working.
In this tutorial he clicks on text at the beginning and then a link comes up in the editor box. My text boxes don’t offer the link option – only font & style. Does anyone know what text box Claus used?

    Many thanks
    Shiv

    Hi Shiv,

I think you are using a Title Text box.

You need to insert a Body Text box which is located on your toolbar next to Title text box.

    I hope that helps…

I’m selling an online (downloadable book). Got my PayPal link to work, but when someone has paid, how do I direct them/link them to the downloadable book, please?

  • Ray

    Hi Julie,

You can use an external site called PayLoadz and they provide a secure shopping cart for payment and download of your Ebook….

In an upgrade coming to Webeden soon you will have the functionality of allowing a downloadable product after a payment has been made… so stay tuned…

Hi, I am trying to sort out a page dedicated to links to external websites that I like. I have only managed to do one successfully. For some reason the full web address of other sites just doesn’t feature on the link button – it is only partial and so makes no sense to someone wishing to make use of the links. eg http://www.starprintphotography.co.uk will show up as http://www.starpri
I have tried adjusting the size of the link button but nothing works.
    Please can you help.
    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Sharon

  • Ray

    Hi Sharon,

I am afraid the link buttons are constricted by sizes so some words will not fit in. What I suggest doing creating a text box with your links you want and then linking the text rather than the link button.

I hope that makes sense and helps

    Hi,

You replied to Catherine above about hosting downloadable files on her website.
We have a couple of forms we would like to put on for people to download but I’m being told I can’t do this on our free site.
We are already planning to upgrade to the Light package but meanwhile, how do I upload and link to these files (ms word)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mick.

  • Ray

You can upload any files you like onto your site but until you upgrade i am afraid nobody will be able to download the files.
