Hi Paul,

If someone has a bookmark of http://www.by-jools.com they are automatically forwarded to http://www.by-jools.co.uk. So by-jools.com records no visitors, because no visitors can reach a website at that address. Before they arrive at by-jools.com they are sent onto by-jools.co.uk.

That visitor will then be recorded as a visitor of by-jools.co.uk, since that is the website they are visiting.

Does that make sense?

Dear Ken,

Thanks for your swift reply. Just to confirm that if a person has a bookmark of www.by-jools.com, the traffic will be not recorded on the main URL www.by-jools.co.uk?

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

I've checked these site address, and it looks as though you have set up by-jools.co.uk as the main site address.

All of the other domains are forwarding any of their traffic onto the main by-jools.co.uk website.

So when you're setting up Google analytics, you're right to do it for the main by-jools.co.uk domain, rather than any others. Google anlytics will not include data for the other domains.

Hope that answers your question! Please let me know if not.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Paul,

It does make sense to a certain extent.

If you have just 2 site address:
http://www.mysite.com and http://www.mysite.webeden.co.uk

then it doesn't matter.

But can you show me what you mean for the '4 domain names'?

What are the 4 domains in question?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken, I have some customers with 4 domain names on a site.

If I set up Google Analytics for the preferred site address i.e www.mysite.com rather than www.mysite.webeden.com, do the reports ignore the other URL's?

Hope this make sense....

Well you might have noticed that this tutorial ended this first series. But we know Google analytics can offer so much more, and we'll definitely return to it again...

This is very useful because I build sites for clients and it means that I can give them their stats - hand on heart - and tell them that it's not just me (or them!) that are visiting the site!

Thanks Ken - look forward to more analytics stuff to follow ;-)
