Website Builder Tutorials: How to Set your Page Size
Another simple tutorial for you this week, but a useful one nontheless. Setting the right page size can completely change the look and feel of your site, and it of course allows you to ‘frame’ your words and pictures. The WebEden website building tool make changing your page size very, very easy.
Let us know how you got on.

The artist that I’m currently building for had seen another website that had a really small page - and it looked v effective - very simply laid out and limited colour palette.
It was very easy to change the page width and height. I’ve even explored the .ico icons options and, for anyone reading this who needs a personalised icon file, but who doesn’t know how to make a 16 x 16 .ico file - go to majorgeeks and download Easypicture2Icon. (other gizmo/app sites ARE available LOL!) Makes them in nanoseconds and can really make your finished website look professional.
Best

Thanks for that icon advice Alison - very appreciated.
When it comes to page size, many people assume that bigger + more info is better. But design is often about keeping things simple.
Take a 5 second test: can someone understand and appreciate your web page in just 5 seconds? If they can’t, it might be time to simplify…

Hi Ken,
Wasn’t too sure where to post a question so i thought i would try here!
I am using quite a lot of large images on my new site iam building. Not being an internet whizz i was wandering if i had to save the images as a certain file or a certain size to use on the web? Or wether webeden resizes pictures automatcally when you upload them on to the site?
does any of this have any effect on the speed a picure would upload whe someone is viewing a site?
Was just a thought as i learn ever more about the internet world!
Cheers for your help,
Ben

Hi Ben,
WebEden automatically compresses images to make sure they load quickly on the web (the tick box is automatically selected when you upload).
However, if you’re uploading a lot of images they might use up a lot of your storage space that you get with your package.
Therefore it might be an idea to open the images using MS Paint and then save them as a jpeg. And then upload the Jpeg. This should reduce their original size by around 2 thirds.
Good luck, and good to hear from you ;-). What’s all this ‘Not being an internet whizz’ rubbish!

Hi
I want to make my website page size adjust to match the web page browser so that it will look the same on different computers (but obviously larger or smaller depending on the size of the screen). Basically i dont want any side margins to be seen.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi Craig,
You can edit the width of the page under:
Edit -> Site settings
However, it does depend on the screensize / resolution as to how much margin actually appears.
Some people are still on the old 800 x 600. I’m lucky enough to have a width of 1440. The majority will be on either 1280×800 or 1024×768.
