What is… Website builder jargon explained

Here in support at WebEden we get lots of support calls and emails with questions that we hadn’t even considered were relevant.

Why didn’t we consider them? Well the truth of the matter is that we made an assumption about the knowledge level of our customers. This came from the fact that we’ve all been working in the Internet Industry for the last 10 years, and in that time we’ve started to take lots for granted. What we should have been doing is looking at our service through the eyes of our customers.

So with that in mind, we’re going to use this category to explain a some of the Internet jargon that has evolved. We want to break it down in a really simple way, to make sure that as your website building gets more advanced, your knowledge grows too. If there’s anything in particular you’d like explained, leave a comment below.

Ok – exposing my ignorance here – am trying to get OE to work with the e-mail settings and wondered what in the heck the suffix ‘tld’ means in the instructions?

    Hi Alison,

tld means ‘Top Level Domain’. That’s just the bit at the end of your domain name, like ‘.co.uk’ or ‘.com’ etc.

Just relialised we haven’t done much jargon explaining yet have we!

What is my ‘reciprocal link URL’ & how/where do I find it? I am trying to link to another site & they have asked for this but I don’t know what it is! LOL my ignorance is showing…

    Hi Mongrella,

‘Reciprocal link URL’ just means that you link to a site and they link back to you.

So if they put a link to your site from their site, and you want a reciprocal link, then you need to link back to them.

Check this tutorial on how to add a link: http://www.webeden.co.uk/blog/video-tutorials/website-builder-tutorials-creating-links/

    Good luck!
