Choosing a domain name
  • lankylarry March 2010
    Hello all,

    I am about to use my solitary domain voucher to purchase a domain name for my newly created website. However, when I go through the process of choosing a domain name, say 'bigspender', it comes up with options like: 'bigspender.com', 'bigspender.co.uk' etc. it doesn't tell me if the prefix to that part of the address is 'www.' - it is precisely this bit that I want to check because I would like to buy 'www.bigspender.com', rather than the free website domain names which (I think) take the format 'http://bigspender.webeden.com'.

    In essence, I want to make sure that the domain prefix I buy is 'www.' - can someone confirm whether this is the case?

    Apologies if I am asking a totally stupid question but I am totally new to this! Any advice much appreciated.

    [p.s., I am not looking to register 'bigspender'...!]

    Hey lankylarry,

    There is no such thing as a silly question..... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    If you buy the domain bigspender.com or .co.uk or any other domain it will automatically give you the www part.

    This is standard so you could have www.bigspender.com or blog.bigspender.com or cheese.big.... you get my drift.

    I hope that helps...... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Hi, Please can someone help me as I seem to be having a senior moment LOL. Is a domain name the name of your business like for example www.colinscarsales.com or should it be just the name of the person example www.colinthomas.com Sorry to appear thick but I am not really very good with computers and I want to try to build a website for my business. Any help with this domain question will be very much appreciated .
    Kind regards
    Dee

    The domain name is whatever you want it to be. If you are promoting your business then it would normally be your business name. If you have a website about yourself i.e. a blog etc then you would nrmally use your name.

    Hope this helps
